Early Childhood Public Education Kit

Words for the Future—Creando el futuro kit are built around 14 distinct messages about early childhood development. The messages remind everyone that parents are the first teachers and that children are learning all the time.

Community Coordinator’s Handbook
The handbook describes the urgent need to provide Latino children with the experiences and environment they need to optimize their early brain development. Fun community events help focus attention on this serious issue. Among the suggested activities are toy demonstrations in department stores, parent pláticas, grocery store events and milagros making.

Consejos de mi tía
Using a storytelling approach, the Consejos de mi tía remind adults of their own experiences growing up. Each consejo includes a short child development lesson and consejos (advice) from a tía who always knows the right thing to do. Consejo titles are numbered and organized in an index for easy reference and retrieval. View sample

Recipe for Fun—Un recetario de actividades activity cards
These cards provide families with fun, age-appropriate activities during visits to the grocery stores and other places. A description of the activity is included in the Community Coordinator's Handbook.

Tell me a story—Cuéntame un cuento poster
The poster is perfect for display on buses, in laundromats, at subway stops-wherever adults and children wait together. The simple, beautifully illustrated poster invites adults and children to talk to each other about the story. Older children will also enjoy interpreting the story.

CD-Rom
The CD-Rom contains the masters for the Consejos de mi tía, the magnet template, A Recipe for Fun—Un recetario de actividades, a PowerPoint show for parent workshops and childcare providers, and sample partner letters and a press release. This is a valuable time-saving tool for community organizers who want to keep a supply of materials on hand. Sold separately from the kit.
