The National Latino Children’s Institute has always attempted to find solutions to the problems young Latinos face each and every day. But it is impossible to imagine that a single organization would have all the answers. That is why NLCI seeks to find the best programs serving young Latinos and their families by hosting the La Promesa de un Futuro Brillante awards to recognize organizations providing effective programs that work effectively with young Latinos and their families. To date, 115 programs have received this award. But what makes a program the best? NLCI studied the issue and concluded that there were a number of strategies that made a program not only successful in their community, but that it could be replicated. NLCI created a list of criteria for “best practices” in working with the Latino community that each program/organization must meet before being considered for an award. They include:
