FORD AND NLCI PARTNER TO IMPROVE CHILD SAFETY

More Hispanic families and communities in the U.S. will now benefit from
Corazon Mi Vida training and materials.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas, Feb. 7 – Ford Motor Company today announced a $200,000 contribution to the National Latino Children's Institute's (NLCI) Corazon Mi Vida child passenger safety initiative. The announcement was made during the NLCI's Latino Traffic Safety press conference at the La Mansíon del Rio Hotel and The Westin Riverwalk Hotel.

Ford's grant allows NLCI to expand its Corazon Mi Vida program in 2003 and provide training and educational materials in Detroit, Cleveland, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Antonio, Houston, Tucson, Ariz., and Kansas City, Mo.

"Safety is one of our top priorities, and we are proud to strengthen our partnership with NLCI," said Sandra Ulsh, president of Ford Motor Company Fund. "The Corazon Mi Vida program continues to raise awareness of the importance of child passenger safety in the Hispanic community."

NLCI and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) launched this initiative in DATE. Corazon Mi Vida is a bilingual program that informs Latino families, child care providers, clinics, service organizations and the Spanish speaking community about child passenger safety. Although many campaigns have been developed to address the issue of child safety, death rates continue to climb among the Latino population.

NLCI quote. Ford cars and trucks – like the Windstar, Taurus, Explorer and F-150 - continue to surpass NHTSA and industry safety standards. The company's partnership with NLCI is another example of its commitment to passenger safety and to corporate citizenship.
