Founded 34 years ago, the mission of the Latin American Community Center is to provide comprehensive services to participating families in the Delaware community.

The Latin American Community Center’s programs serve a range of needs and groups within the Latino community. La Fiesta Day Care Center provides comprehensive, developmental child care in a culturally sensitive, bilingual setting. Staff members are attentive to the needs of children and families adjusting to a different cultural environment. Another program, the Delaware Network for Youth, aims to reduce the incidence of aggressive behavior among participating youth. Youth receive training and education in self-discipline, leadership, teamwork, and cooperation.

The Social Outreach and Guidance Program is designed to provide Latino youth an educational, recreational, and socially diverse atmosphere that fosters self-esteem, creativity, community awareness, and discipline in a structured environment of hope. Emphasis is placed on activities that serve as preventative measures for aggressive and inappropriate behaviors. The Tutoring and Drop-Out Prevention Center aims to improve the education level of young Latinos through tutoring, homework assistance, and English as a second language classes. It emphasizes educational attainment and academic achievement for young Latinos who might not otherwise succeed in school or value education as an important goal. The center is the only provider of bilingual tutoring services in Delaware.

Family Services Project helps Latino families and individuals overcome psychological, social, and economic problems that cause serious stress and threaten healthy functioning and self-reliance. The program provides services to families and individuals through case management, family counseling, crisis alleviation, and youth and community outreach in drug and alcohol prevention. Alcoholic Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous support meetings are conducted in Spanish on a weekly basis.
