| The celebrations may be as small
as a classroom teacher and her students enjoying an uplifting
activity, or a citywide event where thousands of children gather
to enjoy parades, book festivals, hands-on activities and entertainment
offered at no cost to the children. Most of the celebrations
follow one or more of the following formats:
Group Sponsored Event
A school, daycare center, club or organization plans
and sponsors a celebration for their own members or group. This
type of celebration usually takes place on-site with staff,
parents and volunteers responsible for planning and carrying
out all of the activities.
Advocacy Activities
A child-centered agency, organization or local government
office plans advocacy activities such as press events, public
forums, the passage of resolutions and other activities that
draw attention to the unmet needs of children in a particular
community. The activities are a call to action for improving
the healthy development of all children.
Citywide Event
Committees representative of multiple agencies, organizations,
youth and families plan a citywide event that is open to all
children in the community. This celebration typically takes
place in a public place and relies on the generous contribution
and participation of sponsors
and volunteers.
Corporate-sponsored Event
Corporate-sponsored events are planned jointly by representatives
from a corporation and the community where the event will take
place. |
